Comment from CGP Advisory Council on the Situation in Sudan

Tim Morris, CGP Advisor and Former British Ambassador to South Sudan said:

All my thoughts are with the people of Sudan who once again are suffering the consequences of militarised conflict between those vying for control of the country; with British and Sudanese British citizens trying to stay safe or to evacuate, and with former British diplomatic colleagues and military personnel doing a thorough and excellent job organising the safe evacuation of as many as possible.

Developments at a regional level give cause for concern and this is a time for as much support as possible to the regional states, who themselves are going through difficult times, to bring the leaders of Sudan together, stop the fighting and move quickly it a political settlement leading to a transition to civilian rule.

The people of Sudan and the region have suffered enormously and unjustly.  Hundreds of thousands of British people are linked with the region and we have an important role to play in supporting the security and development of a vital and productive area of the world.
