Future Leaders Programme

About

As a parliamentary candidate, you may wish to broaden your knowledge, connections and share experiences on specific policy areas. CGP’s Future Leaders programme aims to build a network of cross-party candidates who feel empowered to speak with authority on foreign policy and hear from senior political figures. It will look particularly at the UK's investment in development, geopolitical priorities and international institutions and its activities will include a series of events, networking opportunities, a residential retreat and the opportunity to write for an essay collection and provide policy recommendations. The 2023 programme began with a welcome reception in April and ended with events at Labour and Conservative party conferences in the autumn.

Policy Retreats

Overseas Visit to Jordan

In July 2023, CGP took a delegation of Future Leaders to Jordan to see the impact of UK-funded development projects supporting refugees in the region. The Future Leaders were able to learn more about the important ways development works alongside diplomacy and defence, visiting projects delivered by the British Council, Turquoise Mountain and UNHCR, as well as meeting with key members of the Jordanian Parliament, including the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Future Leaders Essay Collection

The launch of the Future Leaders Essay Collection concluded our inaugural 2023 Future Leaders Programme. This cross-party essay collection offers insightful reflections and analysis of some of the biggest challenges and opportunities for the UK’s foreign policy from the next generation of UK parliamentarians. We were delighted to welcome The Rt Hon Alistair Burt, former FCO Minister, to speak at the launch.

“The Future Leaders programme from the Coalition for Global Prosperity is an invaluable initiative, helping parliamentary candidates to broaden their knowledge, connections and experiences on areas of foreign policy.”

Lord Hague of Richmond, former Foreign Secretary and leader of the Conservative Party
