The Coalition Hosts Five International Heads of State at the NATO Engages Conference 2019 in London

On the 70th Anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the coalition team headed to Central Hall in Westminster to co-host the NATO Engages 2019 Conference. On the eve of the leaders summit, NATO Engages brought together heads of state and senior figures in defence and diplomacy to have a broader discussion around how the Euro-Atlantic Alliance is adapting and maintaining security for its Allies in a rapidly changing world.

The first keynote speech was from Secretary of State for Defence the Rt Hon Ben Wallace MP, who kicked off the day stating that he was proud of the UK’s ongoing commitment to NATO and to global security more broadly.

Having only joined in February of this year, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said that North Macedonia had already seen more “stability, security, and investment.”

Also providing a keynote address was former Secretary General of NATO The Rt Hon Lord George Robertson.

Prime Minister of Norway H.E. Erna Solberg then set out the need for NATO to tackle climate change as a security issue, as it is one of the biggest causes of instability and conflict of our time.

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte then took to the stage to discuss how the ability for member states to agree internally makes NATO so strong.
