Parliamentary Visit to Nepal

June 2023

The Coalition for Global Prosperity were delighted to partner with WaterAid, Save the Children and the British Council for our Parliamentary Visit to Nepal. We were joined by Gagan Mohindra MP (CON), Abena Oppong-Asare MP (LAB) and Jackie Doyle-Price MP (CON).

The delegation visited the Lele Water Project, which supports over 1200 families. It aims to increase the capacity and performance towards quality, inclusive and sustainable water, sanitation, and solid waste service delivery in the Godawari Municipality, an area near the capital Kathmandu.

In Kathmandu, the delegation visited the National Federation of Women Living with HIV (NFWLHA), delivered by Save the Children. NFWLHA works in all provinces for the equal rights of infected and affected women and children along with youth who are at risk of HIV. The MPs met with Children Affected by AIDS (CABA) graduates, single women living with HIV, and women who have received entrepreneurial skills through the project.

The MPs visited the Blue Diamond Society (BDS), which focuses on promoting human rights and gender equality in the health sector in Nepal for LGBTIQ+ people. The MPs also visited a school supported by UK Aid, where they were able to speak with secondary school students who are learning English thanks to the support of the British Council.

The delegation were also able to meet with Government officials, including the Minister for Water, as well as the UK Ambassador to Nepal, Nicola Pollitt, in order to discuss the UK’s role in region. The UK and Nepal are also marking 100 years of diplomatic relations, which provided an excellent opportunity for the delegation to discuss the future of the relationship during their visit.
