Launch of the 1946 Forum

The Coalition for Global Prosperity were delighted to launch our latest project, The 1946 Forum.

The 1946 Forum is a new cross-party international caucus that promotes the transatlantic relationship to lead as a force for good in an ‘un-united world’. Inspired by Churchill's 1946 Sinews of Peace speech, it will convene a network of legislators and policymakers from the UK and US to address the global challenges and opportunities of the 2020s, championing international development as a foreign policy priority, exploring shared geopolitical objectives and advocating for the value of international institutions.

It aims to confront the West’s lack of an ‘overall strategic concept’ in relation to the influence of malign actors in the developing world and to ensure that the transatlantic alliance remains at the forefront of saving lives, alleviating poverty and bringing freedom, security and prosperity to those who need it most. This first event will look through the lens of geopolitics and development to consider the relevance of Churchill’s Sinews of Peace speech today.

At the launch dinner of the 1946 Forum which took place in the Churchill War Rooms in Westminster, Members of Parliament heard from Tim Marshall, author of the bestselling book Prisoners of Geography and former Diplomatic Editor at Sky News.

Members of Parliament in attendance were The Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP, Wayne David MP, Catherine McKinnell MP, Sally-Ann Hart MP and Bob Seely MP.

This project is supported by the Eleanor Crook Foundation.
