At their recent conference, the Foreign and Commonwealth office brought together a select group of leading foreign office officials and partners and a range of future leaders to debate the key global issues facing Britain today.

The Coalition for Global Prosperity’s Chief Executive Theo Clarke was invited to the weekend to speak on the crucial role that UK Aid plays in promoting Britain’s soft power.

This unique event took place at the historic institution Wilton Park, one of the world’s leading centres for discussion of key international policy challenges. The weekend focused around three themes reflecting the current Foreign Secretary’s priorities: 
•    Soft Power
•    Conservation and combating the Illegal Wildlife Trade
•    Girls’ Education

On Sunday morning, a fascinating discussion was had on Britain’s soft power in a post-Brexit world. The Coalition's Chief Executive, Theo Clarke spoke alongside representatives from the BBC and the British Council. Each spoke on Britain’s role as a soft power juggernaut and the crucial role that each of their sectors play in this.

Theo Clarke discussed how UK Aid flies the flag for Britain around the world, sending a clear message about Britain’s values and role in the world. 

Reflecting on the weekend, Theo Clarke, Chief Executive of the Coalition for Global Prosperity, said that:

“Britain really is one of the world’s most influential soft powers and the Foreign Office does a fantastic job promoting Britain across the globe. Our footprint is seen the world over through the BBC World Service and the great work of bodies such as the British Council. However, we cannot underestimate the huge role that UK Aid plays in flying the flag for Britain. UK Aid saves lives and sends a clear message about Britain’s values and role in the world. Despite what you read in the papers, the UK is one of the most widely respected aid donors in the world. As Britain redefines its global role, this is more important now than ever before and we should be proud of the edge this gives us in the international arena.
